A new iPhone can feel exceptional during its first weekend and much less impressive after two months of travel, editing, charging and everyday use. The iPhone 17 Pro gets a more revealing assessment in the supplied 60-day review because the reviewer has lived with both its strengths and its frustrations.
The initial verdict was mixed. During an intensive trip to Japan, the phone ran out of battery at around 5 p.m. After two months, the same reviewer is more positive: battery life has stabilized, the A19 Pro remains impressively quick, and the cameras are good enough for some paid work. Yet the aluminum finish shows wear, demanding camera days still require charging, and some software features feel unfinished.
That makes the iPhone 17 Pro an interesting flagship in 2026. It is a powerful compact alternative to the Pro Max, but it does not escape the trade-offs that come with a smaller battery and an ambitious camera system.
This article analyzes the linked 60-day owner review. Belliste has not independently tested the device. Personal observations are attributed to the reviewer; they are not presented as standardized laboratory results.
The 60-Day Verdict Is More Useful Than a Launch-Day Impression
The reviewer begins by returning to the questions that mattered in his first review: does the new aluminum design survive daily life, does the thermal system help, and has the battery improved after the first demanding week?
A two-month review offers a different perspective from an unboxing. It captures small annoyances that are easy to miss during a launch event: scuffs around the frame, the delay before a recorded video becomes available for playback, or the way battery life changes between office days and travel.
It also has limitations. One person's usage pattern is not representative of every buyer. The phone's battery life, heat and software behavior can vary with network coverage, apps, temperature, charger and software version.
Still, the value of the video is its specificity. The reviewer does not merely call the phone fast or the cameras good. He describes the situations in which those qualities matter and the moments when they fail to solve his problems.
The result is a largely positive review with several qualifications worth taking seriously.
Aluminum Looks Good, but the Finish Shows Wear
Apple moved away from the titanium construction of the previous Pro generations and adopted a redesigned aluminum body for the iPhone 17 Pro.
The reviewer chose Deep Blue and still likes its appearance after 60 days. His complaint is durability of the visible finish.
He points to a scratch near the lower speaker area, which he says occurred when he dropped the phone while changing cases. He also describes the exposed aluminum finish as more prone to visible scuffs than the titanium iPhone 15 Pro and 16 Pro he previously used.
This is meaningful owner feedback, but the cause of that specific scratch matters. A dropped phone can be damaged regardless of material, so one incident cannot quantify the relative scratch resistance of aluminum and titanium.
The video mentions Apple's explanation that some marks observed on store display units were material transfer rather than scratches in the underlying surface. Both things can be true: some marks may be removable deposits, while other damage can penetrate the colored finish.
The reviewer also references reports of Cosmic Orange units developing a pinkish appearance. He explicitly says he does not know how widespread those cases are. Belliste therefore treats them as reported concerns, not evidence of a universal defect.
His practical conclusion is that he prefers using the phone with a case and screen protector. For buyers who strongly prefer a caseless phone, the risk of visible cosmetic wear deserves consideration.
The New Thermal Design Is a Practical Improvement
The aluminum redesign is not only about appearance. It works alongside Apple's updated internal thermal system, including vapor-chamber cooling, to distribute heat during demanding tasks.
In the reviewer's experience, the iPhone 17 Pro generally remains comfortable to hold, even after periods of heavy use. He says he has not encountered the temperature warning he remembers from earlier iPhones, despite using the device in hot weather.
That is encouraging, but not proof that the phone never overheats. His conditions, apps and ambient temperatures are not a controlled thermal test.
There is also an important exception. He says the phone can become noticeably hot while charging in his Tesla Model 3. Charging heat depends on the charging setup, power level, surrounding temperature and whether the phone is being used simultaneously.
The right takeaway is not that aluminum makes the phone permanently cool. It is that the redesigned body and cooling system appear to make heat less disruptive during much of this reviewer's daily use.
This matters to photographers, mobile editors and gamers because sustained performance is often more useful than a short burst of maximum speed.
A19 Pro Performance Holds Up After Two Months
The A19 Pro is one of the iPhone 17 Pro's clearest strengths.
The reviewer regularly edits and exports 4K video and works with RAW photographs in Lightroom. He reports that these tasks feel faster than on the iPhone 16 Pro.
That is the kind of performance comparison that matters to someone who actually edits on a phone. A higher benchmark score is useful context, but a shorter export wait changes a real workflow.
He also describes the iPhone as capable of serious mobile gaming with a Bluetooth controller and an external display connected through USB-C.
That does not make it a replacement for every dedicated console. Game availability, controls, thermal limits and battery drain still affect the experience. But it shows how far smartphone graphics have developed.
The reviewer's praise is grounded in the phone's ability to complete demanding work reliably most of the time. The notable exception involves a professional video workflow.
Apple Log 2 Is Excellent Until You Need to Review a Clip Quickly
The reviewer is enthusiastic about shooting in Apple Log 2 and grading footage afterward. A flatter recording profile preserves flexibility for adjusting color and contrast during editing.
For people familiar with color grading, that can make the iPhone a useful camera for travel, client work and lightweight production.
But the reviewer describes a specific irritation in the Final Cut Camera app: after recording Log 2 footage, a clip can take up to around 10 seconds to appear and become playable.
Ten seconds is not much when editing a finished video. It can be disruptive when shooting a scene, checking focus or exposure, and deciding whether to take another shot before the moment passes.
The video does not establish whether this delay is caused by the phone hardware, the app, the codec, the file size or a particular software version. It should not be treated as a universal hardware defect.
Nevertheless, it is a useful reminder that professional capability is not only about image quality. The speed and reliability of the workflow matter just as much.
A camera that records impressive footage but interrupts the shooting process still has room to improve.
Battery Life: Better Than the First Review, Not a Miracle
The battery story is the most revealing part of the 60-day test.
During an early travel day in Japan, the reviewer recorded approximately 4 hours and 26 minutes of active screen time before the phone died at around 5 p.m. He notes that the device was new, still performing background setup and indexing, and being used heavily for photography and navigation.
After roughly two months and around 50 charge cycles, the experience changed. On lighter office days, he reports about 4–8 hours of active screen time, substantial idle time and often 20–30% battery remaining by evening.
The transcript's phrase '48 hours' appears to be a speech-transcription rendering of 'four to eight hours'; Belliste treats that range as an interpretation rather than an exact quoted measurement.
On busier days involving camera work, navigation and gaming, he still gets closer to 4–5 hours of active screen time and expects to recharge.
This is not contradictory. Screen-on time is only one part of battery usage. Camera processing, GPS, weak cellular signal, background activity and high display brightness can consume substantial energy.
It is also impossible to isolate the cause of the improvement. Initial indexing may have ended, software may have changed, and the reviewer's usage pattern was different. The video does not prove that adaptive battery optimization alone caused the better results.
The fair verdict is that battery life became good enough for many ordinary days, but remained a constraint on demanding travel days.
Why Battery Capacity Alone Does Not Settle the Comparison
The reviewer contrasts Apple's endurance with an Android competitor offering a much larger nominal battery capacity.
It is a relevant comparison, but milliamp-hours alone do not determine runtime. Chip efficiency, display power consumption, radio behavior, software and workload all matter.
A phone with a smaller battery can sometimes last longer in a particular test. Conversely, a high-end compact phone can run short of power when it spends hours recording video and navigating outdoors.
The iPhone 17 Pro's advantage is that it offers strong performance in a smaller package. Its disadvantage is that it cannot make battery space unlimited.
If your typical day resembles the reviewer's office routine, the battery may be perfectly adequate. If you shoot footage, use maps and stay on mobile data for long periods, plan for a top-up.
Buyers who prioritize maximum endurance should compare the larger Pro Max or newer models, not assume the smaller Pro will behave the same way.
Three 48MP Cameras Offer Serious Flexibility
The iPhone 17 Pro uses a versatile rear camera system with three 48MP sensors. The reviewer praises its ability to produce strong JPEG and RAW photographs in varied lighting.
He says he has completed travel and client shoots using the iPhone in ProRAW mode, then applied relatively modest edits afterward.
That is a meaningful endorsement from someone who actually creates paid content. It is not proof that the iPhone matches a dedicated camera in every condition. Larger sensors, interchangeable lenses and different ergonomics can still provide advantages.
The phone's value lies in consistency and convenience. You can move between wide, ultra-wide and telephoto perspectives without carrying extra equipment.
The reviewer considers the results sufficient for most mobile photography. His enthusiasm is particularly strong for the freedom to capture and edit professional-looking images while traveling light.
The correct conclusion is not that dedicated cameras are obsolete. It is that the iPhone 17 Pro is capable enough to be the primary camera for some workflows.
The 8x Zoom Label Needs Careful Reading
The reviewer takes issue with Apple's language around 8x optical-quality zoom.
The phone has a physical 4x telephoto camera. Its 8x framing uses a crop from the higher-resolution telephoto sensor with processing, rather than a separate native 8x optical lens.
That does not make the result useless. A high-resolution crop can retain substantial detail in good conditions. But it is not optically identical to having a dedicated lens with twice the focal length.
This distinction matters when comparing phones. Manufacturers often present a range of equivalent focal lengths, some optical and some computational.
For distant wildlife, sports or low-light subjects, the quality of an 8x crop may differ from a genuine longer telephoto camera.
Belliste's assessment is simple: judge the actual images at your preferred zoom level, and do not confuse 'optical-quality' marketing language with a separate optical lens.
The Front Camera Solves an Everyday Problem
The reviewer is particularly positive about the redesigned front-facing camera and its square sensor.
The benefit is practical: framing group selfies becomes easier, including situations where people are standing at different positions or the phone's orientation is awkward.
This is a smaller innovation than a new processor, but it affects a task many people perform frequently.
Instead of rotating the phone or asking everyone to move, the camera system provides more flexibility in composing the shot.
It also reflects a broader trend in smartphone photography: the most useful improvements are not always the ones with the largest megapixel number.
A more forgiving selfie camera can make a social moment easier to capture. That is a meaningful quality-of-life improvement even for people who never touch ProRAW or Log video.
iOS 26: A Fresh Interface With Early Stability Problems
The reviewer has grown to like the visual changes in iOS 26, including its translucent Liquid Glass interface, lock-screen treatments and updated controls.
He also appreciates functional additions such as call screening and messaging features.
But his experience was not smooth from the start. He reports five or six unexpected freezes or reboots on early iOS 26 versions.
He says those incidents stopped after later software updates. That is reassuring for his device, but it does not prove every stability problem was resolved for every user.
He remains unhappy with the redesigned Photos app layout, which he finds less convenient than the older arrangement.
These details are valuable because software is part of the ownership experience. A beautiful interface is not an improvement if it makes familiar tasks harder to complete.
The iPhone 17 Pro's hardware may be excellent, but the quality of its daily experience still depends on software refinement.
Apple Intelligence Is Not the Reason to Buy This Phone
The reviewer's strongest software criticism concerns Apple Intelligence.
He compares his experience with Google's Pixel 10 and points to practical features such as contextual assistance, call-related translation and photography guidance.
His view is that Apple's AI tools feel less useful in everyday situations.
That is an opinion based on his preferred workflows, not a comprehensive feature-by-feature evaluation across every region, language and software version. AI availability and performance can vary.
The important buying principle is broader: do not choose a premium phone on the assumption that future AI features will eventually become indispensable.
Evaluate what is available now, in your country and language, and decide whether it solves problems you have.
For this reviewer, the iPhone's performance, cameras and design carry the recommendation. AI does not.
Sponsored Charging Gear Is Separate From the Phone Review
Midway through the video, the reviewer introduces an Anker-sponsored segment featuring chargers and a power bank.
That sponsorship is disclosed in the transcript. The accessories may be useful, but the segment's promotional claims should not be treated as independent testing of charging performance or product superiority.
Belliste excludes the sponsor's advertised wattage comparisons and marketing language from its editorial judgment of the iPhone 17 Pro.
The relevant observation is simpler: the reviewer sometimes needs an external charger on heavy travel days.
That is evidence of his personal battery-management routine, not a recommendation that buyers must purchase a particular brand.
Separating advertising from evaluation is especially important in long-term reviews, where real owner experience and product promotion can appear side by side.
iPhone 17 Pro vs 16 Pro: Who Should Upgrade?
The iPhone 17 Pro offers a redesigned body, stronger sustained performance, an upgraded telephoto camera and improved creative video tools.
For owners of an iPhone 16 Pro, the differences may be useful without being essential. The reviewer himself says recent Pro owners can comfortably wait.
The same is broadly true for iPhone 15 Pro users who remain happy with battery life, camera quality and performance. A battery replacement may solve the biggest daily annoyance at much lower cost.
For someone coming from an iPhone 13 Pro or another substantially older model, the accumulated improvements are more persuasive. Better processing, cameras, charging and display behavior can make the device feel like a significant step forward.
By October 2026, buyers should also compare the iPhone 17 Pro against the newer iPhone 18 Pro. The 17 Pro may be a strong purchase at a discount, but a small price gap changes the value calculation.
Do not pay near-new-generation pricing for an older phone without checking the newer alternative.
Verdict: Excellent Hardware, With Real-World Limits
After 60 days, the iPhone 17 Pro earns a largely positive verdict.
Its A19 Pro handles demanding editing and gaming well. The camera system is versatile enough for some professional assignments, and the square-sensor selfie camera is an understated everyday improvement. The thermal redesign appears to help in normal use.
The compromises are concrete. The colored aluminum finish can show wear. Apple Log 2 playback can be slow in the reviewer's workflow. Battery life is good on ordinary days but less reassuring when photography, navigation and gaming dominate.
Early iOS 26 instability and underwhelming AI features also prevent the phone from feeling flawless.
Buy the iPhone 17 Pro if you want a relatively compact flagship with serious cameras and strong performance, particularly at a worthwhile discount.
Keep your iPhone 15 Pro or 16 Pro if it still serves you well and you are not regularly frustrated by its limitations.
Consider the Pro Max or newer 18 Pro if battery endurance is your overriding priority.
The iPhone 17 Pro is a phone the reviewer could happily keep for years. That is meaningful praise, but it comes with a useful warning: even an excellent compact flagship cannot remove every compromise.
