POCO X8s combines a smaller display, telephoto camera and large battery. Its hardware is promising, but the software and camera results still need testing.

POCO’s new X8s makes an unusually coherent pitch: a smaller handset that keeps a substantial battery and a useful camera choice.
The company’s global product page lists a 6.35-inch display, 6,330mAh battery and 50MP telephoto with 2.5x optical zoom. GSMArena reports early-bird pricing of $399 for 8GB/256GB and $499 for 12GB/512GB.
That is a more interesting proposition than simply making another large phone slightly cheaper. Belliste’s view: useful framing and manageable dimensions deserve as much attention as peak benchmark scores.
The official dimensions include a width of 71.8mm and weight of 187g. Those figures describe a relatively manageable package, not a guarantee that every buyer can use it comfortably one-handed.
A display diagonal alone does not capture grip. Body width, balance and case thickness matter when reaching for a shutter or typing on the move.
Try the finished setup if possible. A phone advertised as compact can lose some of that appeal under a thick protective case.
Still, the design direction is welcome. Buyers should not have to move into expensive premium ranges simply to avoid a very large screen.
A dedicated longer lens can change how someone frames a portrait or a detail across a street. That is a concrete capability to investigate rather than a decorative extra camera.
The X8s also has a stabilised main camera and an ultrawide. Their presence does not establish consistent image quality across all three views.
Look for indoor faces, moving subjects and mixed lighting when independent samples become available. Manufacturer photographs show intended output; they are not a substitute for repeated independent testing.
The telephoto’s usefulness will depend on focus, processing and available light. It earns attention, not an automatic recommendation.
POCO advertises 100W charging and PPS compatibility alongside the battery capacity. The combination could appeal to someone who values reserve and convenient top-ups.
Actual endurance and charging times remain questions for testing. Neither the capacity nor the charger rating guarantees a particular number of days or minutes.
Check the adapter included in your market and the specifications of any charger you already own. A large wattage printed on an adapter does not establish support for every required charging profile.
For a smaller device, thermal behaviour also deserves attention during long gaming or recording sessions. Headline capability must survive sustained use.
The product’s appeal depends on what happens after setup. Notifications, preinstalled applications, unwanted prompts and the update commitment belong in the value calculation.
This article does not claim the X8s has failed those tests; Belliste has not used it. They are the questions a promising hardware announcement still needs to answer.
The Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 is another reason to assess the device according to its intended role. A balanced everyday phone does not need to win a flagship performance contest.
If gaming is your priority, examine sustained performance in your games rather than buying a camera-and-size proposition for a task it has not yet demonstrated.
The X8s puts several useful ideas in the same package. That is enough to place it on a shortlist.
It is not enough to ignore local pricing, warranty or the limits of a launch promotion. Early-bird dollar figures do not establish what every country will pay.
We would rather see more manufacturers compete over a comfortable phone with a useful telephoto than add another camera with little practical purpose.
Now POCO needs to demonstrate that the everyday software, image output and endurance are as convincing as the arrangement on paper.
