TCL's P80 Ultra pairs NXTPAPER reading modes with a 6.83-inch AMOLED screen, 50MP 3x periscope camera and 5,800mAh battery.

TCL's P80 Ultra is not a new October launch. The phone was unveiled at IFA in September 2026, with European availability starting September 3. What makes it worth a closer look is the unusual combination of a 6.83-inch NXTPAPER AMOLED display, a dedicated reading-mode key and a 50MP 3x periscope camera. TCL's IFA product sheet
The 6.83-inch, 1.5K AMOLED panel supports a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. TCL advertises up to 3,200 nits peak brightness, a figure that should not be confused with sustained full-screen brightness. A dedicated NXTPAPER key switches between the normal display and reading-oriented Paper Mode or Max Ink Mode. TCL specifications
This is still an AMOLED smartphone, not an E Ink reader. The reading modes could appeal to people who spend hours with documents or books, but their practical benefit needs independent testing. Claims about reduced glare or visual comfort should not be treated as medical guarantees.
The camera system is unusually ambitious for a phone that also emphasizes reading comfort. TCL lists a 50MP main camera with a 1/1.56-inch sensor and stabilization, a separate 50MP periscope telephoto with 3x optical zoom and OIS/EIS, and an 8MP autofocus ultrawide. The front camera is 32MP. TCL IFA details
A real 3x telephoto lens gives the phone a more convincing hardware case than an advertised high digital-zoom number alone. But neither megapixels nor stabilization specifications tell us how reliably it handles moving subjects, low light or video. Belliste has not independently tested the cameras.
The P80 Ultra uses a MediaTek Dimensity 7400 Elite processor, 8GB of physical RAM and either 256GB or 512GB of storage in the announced European configurations. TCL also advertises up to 16GB of virtual RAM expansion; that storage-backed feature is not equivalent to adding physical memory.
A 5,800mAh battery supports up to 45W wired charging with a compatible adapter. TCL says the European box includes a cable and protective case, but not the charging adapter. IP68 dust and water resistance is also advertised, subject to the manufacturer's test conditions. TCL product information
TCL announced European availability from September 3, 2026. Colors and configurations vary by storage tier and market; buyers should check their local TCL listing for current prices and stock rather than assume a single global price.
The P80 Ultra's argument is not that it beats every flagship on raw specifications. It offers a particular mix: an adaptable reading experience, a dedicated optical zoom camera and a relatively large battery. Whether that mix makes sense depends on its actual street price and how well NXTPAPER performs outside TCL's demonstrations.
