Huawei has launched the Mate 90 series in China, introducing new Kirin chips, HarmonyOS 7 and a high-end Mate 90 Pro Max with a 6.9-inch dual-layer OLED display.

Huawei has officially unveiled the Mate 90 series in China on October 1, 2026. The new lineup puts Huawei’s own chip and software platform at the center of the story, with the top Mate 90 Pro Max using the Kirin 9050 Pro and HarmonyOS 7. Reuters reports that Huawei is positioning the new architecture as a way to increase performance while advanced semiconductor supply remains constrained.

The Mate 90 family uses several Kirin variants, while the high-end Pro Max can be configured with Kirin 9050 Pro. Reuters describes Huawei’s LogicFolding approach as a redesign of chip wiring in three dimensions, intended to increase density and processing performance. Huawei has not publicly confirmed every manufacturing detail, and Reuters notes that advanced chip capacity remains a constraint in China.
Huawei lists a 6.9-inch dual-layer OLED display on the Mate 90 Pro Max, with 1–120Hz LTPO adaptive refresh, 2848 × 1320 resolution and BT.2020 wide color gamut. The rear camera system includes a 50MP RYYB main camera with a continuous f/1.4–f/4.0 aperture, a 40MP ultra-wide camera and a 200MP-class telephoto system. Huawei also highlights XMAGE imaging features and 4K video recording.

Huawei’s official specifications list a 6,800mAh typical battery for the Mate 90 Pro Max, up to 100W wired charging and up to 50W wireless charging. The phone runs HarmonyOS 7. Huawei says the platform is designed around its own ecosystem and AI features, making the software experience a major part of the Mate 90 story rather than simply an Android-based specification update.
Reuters reports a starting price of 9,999 yuan for the Mate 90 Pro Max configuration using Kirin 9050 Pro. Other Mate 90 models start lower. Huawei’s international pricing and launch schedule can differ by market, so buyers outside China should wait for local availability announcements before treating China pricing as a local retail price.
